Hey Doctors- You're Welcome.
Nurses have always had a unique, symbiotic, professional relationship with doctors; they are necessary for the diagnosis and treatment of illnesses and injuries across the lifespan. Doctors see how illnesses and injuries manifest in the body- they prescribe treatments, therapies, and medications to keep the body running at it’s best. But let’s be honest-they cannot do it all. They cannot check every mole, they cannot search every crease. The public health foot care nurse is one spoke in the preventive health bike wheel. The awesome client in the community just wants to stay well and cared for, and nurses can do that! We can trim those nails and file that skin and send you on your way. But we can do more! We can keep those feet assessed and examined. We can make referrals to the doctor in a timely fashion by way of the client; foot care nurses can provide the client with relevant education and information to communicate problem areas to their doctor, ensuring a cohesive outcome early and reliably- BOOM! Working together!
Healthy and cared-for feet are vital to health, wellness, and mobility, especially as we age. Collaboration across the health care system, from community based preventive health services, to keeping routine doctor visits, to making small healthy changes are what keep people as strong and healthy as they can be, one body part at a time. Teamwork and collaboration across the health spectrum=healthier feet owners-that’s you!
